Review Sign-in Issues
Step 1
Log into the PortalFuse dashboard. First, open the app https://app.portalfuse.io
Click ‘Sign-ins Report’ in the left-hand menu.
Step 2
Inspect the “Sign-Ins” graph and make a note about whether there are noticeably more failed sign-ins on average.
The chart displays the last 90 days of sign-ins for both successful and failed sign-ins.
Questions to ask:
- Is there an overall increase in failed sign-ins?
- Were there any peaks on a particular day?
Step 3
Inspect the “Application Sign-ins on Office 365” chart and make a note of the total area of Office 365 application failed sign-ins.
Select the portion of the chart for failed sign-ins to display all the failed Office 365 application sign-ins in the data table below.
Questions to ask:
- Is there an overall increase in failed sign-ins?
- Were there any big changes since the previous inspection?
Make a note about which Office 365 applications are causing failures.
In each row, you can look up the following fields:
- Application
- Username
- Date (date/time)
- Status (Success/Failure)
- Conditional Access (Success/Failure)
- Location
- Error Code
You can view a human readble error description by selecting the “View” button.
Step 4
Inspect the “Application Sign-ins on Windows” and make a note of the Windows applications that failed their sign-in.
Select the portion of the chart for failed sign-ins to display all the failed Windows application sign-ins in the data table below.
Questions to ask:
- Is there an overall increase in failed sign-ins?
- Was there a big change in the number of Windows applications failing to sign in?
Make a note about which Windows applications are causing failures.
Recommendations
Once you have accurate records of application sign-in failures, you can begin to develop hypotheses for the root causes of sign-in failures.
